Frequently Asked Questions about Live Wedding Painting
After a bit of time in this business, I have begun to see a trend in certain thoughts and questions my clients often have! Many of these questions pop up on the confirmation calls before the wedding day and I’m always happy to answer them! Have a few questions about live wedding painting as well? Let’s see if I can get them answered for you!
How much does a live wedding painter cost?
This is probably my most asked question that I get from both inquiring clients and even guests at weddings! I wrote a whole blog on this a few weeks back where you can check out a more detailed breakdown of the “why” behind the cost, but in short, my pricing begins at $1,200. This is not including any additional travel expenses or additional guests requested in the composition.
How far do you travel for weddings?
I have a crazy desire to travel the world and experience all the wonders God has created for His people. Some of my top bucket list places include: Maine, Alaska, South Carolina, Greece, Italy, and Ireland! However, I am in a season of life where we are growing our family and I’m not ready to leave my family for days on end. At this time, I am only offering my services to those in the surrounding states of Nebraska, but definitely dream of offering destination packages when I have older kiddos!
What kind of paint do you use and how big are the canvases you offer?
I use Winsor and Newton galeria acrylic paint on stretched canvas! These are high quality paints that yield beautiful bright colors! The canvas sizes I currently offer are 16x20, 18x24, and 22x28.
Will I get to take my painting home at the end of the evening?
Short answer: maybe! I hate to say it kind of depends, but…. it kind of depends! There are nights where the atmosphere is perfect, my energy is high, the lighting in the composition makes sense, and the scene is a relatively “simple” one to capture. In these cases, I am more likely to complete the painting on sight so the bride and groom don’t have to worry about pick up or shipping! That’s the best! Other times, the weather might be a little rough, the scope of the project is a little more complex, or the timeline is just tighter. This situation might call for some in studio touch ups post wedding. Regardless of what happens, it is extremely important to me that each bride receives my absolute best work, so a painting will never be given to the bride and groom until I (and we) agree that it’s perfect.
Can I have specific friends or family members in my painting?
You can specify certain individuals or groups to be included in your completed painting such as your mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, or even certain bridal party members. During our consultation, we can discuss who that looks like for you! Each additional member are an additional charge of $100. Bride and groom are always complimentary with each package of course!
Can you paint my pet in the painting?
Absolutely! This no extra charge! All I need from you is a few clear, good quality pictures of your furry friend beforehand and we can make sure they are there too!
What do I need to have ready for you on the wedding day?
Actually, not much! I try to be pretty self sufficient to minimize stress and hassle on such fun and important day. The main thing I request is for you to visualize where I can set up on your wedding day. This is especially important during the reception as it can get crowded at certain venues and I need a bit of elbow space to paint! If you can have a plan ready for where I can set up, that’s awesome! Browny points if the space has an available outlet.
When will you be arriving on the wedding day?
I like to arrive at the venue around two hours before the event begins. This gives me time and space to set up my materials, and get the bulk of the setting blocked in before guests arrive!
What time will you be headed out?
Every wedding is different but typically I shoot to paint for around 6-8 hours on your day. I won’t leave without bringing the bride and groom over to see the state of the painting whether that is complete or needs to be taken home for touch ups.
